Treasurer Stacy Garrity: Check Your Mailbox to Claim Your Cash!
Harrisburg, PA - Treasurer Stacy Garrity today encouraged Pennsylvanians to check their mailboxes to see if they have unclaimed property. The Pennsylvania Treasury Department recently mailed letters to nearly 64,000 people across the Commonwealth to let them know there is money for them to claim valued from $500.01 up to $10,000.
“One of my top priorities as Treasurer is to return unclaimed property, and this direct outreach to Pennsylvanians is key to getting more money back into the right hands. We’ve already seen an uptick in claims, but there’s still over $5 billion we’re working to return!â€

Recipients of these letters must initiate a claim for their money online at patreasury.gov/unclaimed-property or by reaching out to Treasury directly at 800-222-2046. Many of these claims are eligible for Treasury’s Fast Track process, which can speed up processing time if a claimant’s Social Security number is entered when filing a claim.
Unclaimed property includes things like dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, forgotten stocks and more. It can also include physical assets, such as collectible coins, jewelry and savings bonds, that most often come to Treasury as the contents of safe deposit boxes.
Since taking office, Treasurer Garrity has returned more than $1 billion in unclaimed property. More than one in ten Pennsylvanians is owed some of the $5 billion in unclaimed property in Treasury’s care. The average value of a claim is more than $1,000.

This is real money – up to $10,000 – that should be in their pockets, and we want to get it back as soon as possible. If you didn’t receive a letter, I encourage you to search online for money that could be yours.â€

Anyone can search Treasury’s online database at any time by visiting patreasury.gov/unclaimed-property. Pennsylvanians who have lived in other states can also search for property at MissingMoney.com for money possibly waiting across the country.
